IUST Contractual Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026: Last Date Extended, Eligibility, Salary and Apply Online
The Islamic University of Science & Technology (IUST), Awantipora, Kashmir has extended the last date for submission of online application forms for engagement as Contractual Assistant Professors in various Departments/Centres for the Academic Session 2026.
The recruitment was originally advertised vide Advertisement Notice No. IUST/Academics/26/1871 dated 24 August 2026. As per the latest extension notice, eligible candidates now have additional time to submit their applications.

The University has clarified that all other terms and conditions of the original advertisement will remain unchanged.
IUST Contractual Assistant Professor Recruitment 2026
The engagement is being made on an academic arrangement for teaching, research and allied academic activities for the Academic Session 2026.
Subjects and Eligibility
Mathematics
Candidates should have:
- A Master’s degree with at least 55% marks or an equivalent grade in the relevant/allied subject.
- The minimum requirement is 50% marks for SC/ST/OBC (Non-Creamy Layer) candidates, as applicable.
- A Ph.D. degree awarded in accordance with the applicable UGC Regulations.
- A Ph.D. from a foreign university/institution may also be considered if the institution has been ranked among the top 500 in QS, Times Higher Education (THE), or ARWU rankings at any time.
Statistics
Statistics is also included among the subjects/departments for which applications have been invited under the contractual Assistant Professor engagement.
Candidates must satisfy the prescribed qualification and other eligibility requirements mentioned in the original advertisement.
Computer Science and Engineering
Candidates should possess:
- B.E./B.Tech./B.S. and M.E./M.Tech./M.S. or Integrated M.Tech. in the relevant branch.
- First Class or equivalent in either of the degrees.
- A Ph.D. in the relevant branch/field as per applicable UGC Regulations.
A direct Ph.D. after B.E./B.Tech. may also be accepted subject to the conditions prescribed in the advertisement.
Foreign Ph.D. qualifications from institutions ranked among the top 500 under QS, THE or ARWU may also be considered subject to the prescribed conditions.
Civil Engineering
Civil Engineering is also among the subjects listed for engagement of Contractual Assistant Professor(s).
Candidates are required to fulfil the qualification and other conditions prescribed in the original advertisement.
Computer Science
Candidates should have:
- A Master’s degree with 55% marks or equivalent in Computer Science, Information Technology, Computer Applications or an allied/relevant discipline.
- A Ph.D. awarded in accordance with the applicable UGC Regulations.
Foreign Ph.D. qualifications from universities/institutions ranked among the top 500 in QS, THE or ARWU may also be considered subject to the prescribed conditions.
Management Studies
Candidates should possess:
- A Master’s degree in Tourism & Hospitality Management, Hotel Management, Hotel Management & Catering Technology, Hospitality Management or a relevant allied discipline.
- At least 60% marks.
- UGC-NET/SET/NHTET qualification.
- Ph.D. qualification as prescribed under the applicable UGC Regulations, wherever applicable.
IUST Assistant Professor Salary 2026
Selected candidates engaged as Contractual Assistant Professors will receive monthly emoluments of:
₹50,000 per month
Tenure of Engagement
The engagement will initially be made for the academic arrangement for the year 2026 and will remain valid up to 31 December 2026, or until the post is filled on a substantive basis, whichever is earlier.
The engagement may be extended subject to annual performance appraisal, recommendations of the concerned Head of Department, student feedback, institutional requirements and other relevant parameters.
Application Fee
Eligible candidates are required to pay a non-refundable application fee of ₹500 through online mode.

Eligible candidates should follow these steps:
- Visit the official IUST website.
- Complete the online application form with all required details.
- Pay the prescribed ₹500 application fee through online mode.
- Submit the online application within the extended deadline.
- Take a printout of the completed application form.
- Submit the hard copy along with self-attested copies of relevant certificates and documents to the office of the respective Head of Department.
Candidates must ensure that the hard copy is submitted within the prescribed deadline. Failure to submit the hard copy may result in non-consideration of the candidature.
IUST Recruitment 2026 Selection Process
Candidates will be shortlisted for interview according to the prescribed academic and other screening criteria.
As specified in the advertisement, 20 candidates may be shortlisted for one post and 5 candidates for every additional post, subject to the applicable regulations and screening requirements.
The final selection will be made through interview in accordance with the UGC Regulations, 2018.
The panel recommended by the Selection Committee will remain valid for one year, and vacancies arising during this period may be filled from the panel as per the applicable rules.
IUST Assistant Professor Shortlisting Criteria
The University has prescribed a 100-point selection score, consisting of:

Marks may be awarded for academic qualifications including graduation, post-graduation, M.Phil., Ph.D., NET/JRF/SLET/SET, research publications, teaching/post-doctoral experience and recognized awards.
Research publications indexed in Scopus or Web of Science will carry marks according to the prescribed criteria, including the candidate’s authorship position.
Important Instructions
Candidates are advised to carefully enter all details in the online application form. Original certificates relating to educational qualifications and experience must be produced at the time of interview.
No TA/DA will be paid for appearing in the interview.
Qualifications and experience will be counted as on the last date of submission of applications.
Publications in predatory or dubious journals/conferences will not be considered for academic credit. Research publications indexed in the UGC-CARE List will be considered for academic purposes as specified in the recruitment notice.
Candidates are also required to submit an undertaking regarding plagiarism-free publications. If plagiarism is detected subsequently, the candidature or selection may be rejected.
Candidates holding postgraduate or Ph.D. degrees from foreign universities must submit an Equivalence Certificate issued by the Association of Indian Universities (AIU), New Delhi. Failure to provide the required equivalence certificate may result in rejection of the candidature.
