Kashmir October Heatwave: Srinagar, Qazigund and Kokernag Break Temperature Records
Srinagar, October 4: Kashmir witnessed an exceptional spell of October heat on Sunday, with several stations recording their highest or second-highest temperatures ever recorded for the month, as maximum temperatures soared well above normal.
The Srinagar station recorded 31.2°C, making it the second-highest October temperature on record. It surpassed the previous October high of 31.1°C recorded on October 2, 2008. The all-time October record stands at 33.9°C, recorded on October 2, 1931. Today’s temperature was 5.7°C above normal.
At Qazigund, the maximum temperature reached 31.4°C, breaking the previous and all-time October record of 31.2°C recorded on October 1, 1985. The temperature was a remarkable 7.3°C above normal, making it the hottest October day ever recorded at Qazigund.
Gulmarg, despite being at a much higher elevation, also witnessed exceptionally high temperatures. The resort recorded 23.2°C, exceeding the previous October high of 23.0°C recorded just a day before on October 3, 2026. Its all-time October record is 23.4°C, recorded on October 1, 2009. The temperature was 6.7°C above normal, making today the second-hottest October day on record in Gulmarg.
Meanwhile, Kokernag recorded 29.4°C, breaking its previous and all-time October record of 29.2°C recorded on October 4, 2008. The temperature was 5.8°C above normal, making it the hottest October temperature ever recorded at Kokernag.
