Eligibility Criteria for India Post Recruitment 2026
Candidates applying for the Staff Car Driver posts must fulfil the following requirements:
Educational Qualification: Applicants must have passed Class 10 from a recognised Board or Institute.
Driving Licence: Candidates must possess valid driving licences for both Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) and Heavy Motor Vehicles (HMV).
Driving Experience: A minimum of three years of experience in driving light and heavy motor vehicles is required.
Motor Mechanism Knowledge: Applicants should be able to identify and remove minor defects in vehicles.
Desirable Qualification: Three years of service as a Home Guard or Civil Volunteer is desirable.
Driving Experience Certificate
Candidates must submit a valid experience certificate issued by a Gazetted Officer of a Central or State Government office, or by the head of a registered firm, company, agency or institution.
The certificate must clearly mention the periods of LMV and HMV driving experience, along with the organisation’s complete address, PIN code and issuing authority’s details.
The claimed experience must fall within the validity period of the relevant driving licence.
Age Limit for India Post Staff Car Driver Recruitment 2026
The prescribed age limit for UR and EWS candidates is 18 to 27 years as on November 30, 2026.
Age relaxation is available as follows:
- SC/ST: 5 years.
- OBC: 3 years.
- Eligible Government Servants: Up to 40 years, subject to applicable rules.

Selection Process
The selection process consists of two stages:
Stage 1: Theory Examination

Stage 2: Practical Test
Candidates qualifying in the theory examination will be called for a practical test to assess their knowledge of motor mechanisms and their ability to drive light and heavy motor vehicles.
The final merit list will be prepared based on the marks obtained in both stages, subject to the prescribed qualifying standards.
