SRINAGAR: In a late-night operation that really shows their round-the-clock commitment, Srinagar police managed to nab two suspected drug peddlers during a checkpoint stop in Munawarabad. The big find? A substance that looks a lot like heroin.
Here’s how it went down: Acting on a solid tip about potential drug activity in the area, a team from the Khanyar Police Station decided to set up a surprise checkpoint. It wasn’t long before they spotted two individuals acting pretty suspiciously. When the officers searched them, they found roughly 12.84 grams of what’s believed to be heroin.
So, who were they? The men have been identified as Umer Sheikh, who lives in Dalgate Buchwara, and Aqib Hyder Khan. Khan is originally from Dehradun but is currently staying in the Dalgate area.
This isn’t just a minor bust, either. The police have filed a formal case (FIR No. 46/2025) at the Khanyar station, slapping on sections 8, 21, and 29 of the tough NDPS Act. What happens now? The investigation is just getting started. Cops are digging deeper to find out where the drugs came from and if these two are connected to a larger narcotics network here in the city.
It seems this is part of a bigger picture. Officials mentioned that the Srinagar Police has really ramped up its crackdown on drug peddling and the illegal narcotics trade. They’re also making a direct appeal to the public – they need locals to chip in and help make this campaign a success.
