Jammu and Kashmir Traffic Department Collects Rs. 100 Crores in Fines in 5 Years
According to official data, the traffic department in Jammu and Kashmir has collected almost Rs. 100 crores in fines from alleged violators over the past five years. The Traffic Police City Jammu has collected the highest number of penalties.

The data also shows that the Traffic Police National Highway Ramban has collected fines amounting to over Rs. 15 crores, while Traffic Police City Jammu has collected over Rs. 38 crores, Traffic Police Rural Jammu over Rs. 16 crores, Traffic Police City South Srinagar nearly Rs. 16 crores, and Traffic Rural Kashmir over Rs. 5 crores in 2022 alone.
However, in response to an applicant’s queries, it was revealed that none of these departments have possession of a single ambulance. Additionally, the number of traffic police personnel has also decreased in recent years. For instance, Traffic Police City South Srinagar had 527 personnel in 2018, but this number has decreased to 500 in 2019, 492 in 2020, 488 in 2021, and 466 in 2022. Similarly, the deployment of traffic personnel has also decreased in Traffic Police City Jammu (463), Traffic Police Rural Jammu (324, including 84 SPOs), and Traffic Rural Kashmir (365).
