Sonowal said in a social media post that crude oil tanker MT ST 3, carrying 15 Indian crew members, was struck by a projectile in the Strait of Hormuz on October 15. A day earlier, chemical tanker YARA J, carrying nine Indian seafarers, was hit by a drone at Sulina Anchorage in Romania.
The minister said the government was monitoring both incidents and coordinating with the respective ship management companies to ensure the safety of the crew.
Separately, India has condemned attacks on maritime navigation and commercial shipping amid escalating tensions in West Asia.
Addressing a United Nations Security Council debate on the Middle East, India’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Ambassador Harish Parvathaneni, called for an immediate de-escalation of tensions and urged all parties to pursue a resolution through dialogue and diplomacy.
India has stressed the importance of safeguarding maritime navigation and commercial shipping as the regional situation continues to pose risks to vessels and their crews.
