JKBOSE Class 12 Subject Change Rules 2026 Amended: Class 11 Corresponding Subjects No Longer Mandatory

JKBOSE Class 12 Subject Change Rules 2026 Amended: Class 11 Corresponding Subjects No Longer Mandatory

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) has amended its rules regarding the requirement to pass corresponding subjects in Class 11 for Class 12 subject-change and eligibility cases.

Under the amended provisions, candidates covered by the notification will no longer be required to pass corresponding Class 11 subjects in certain cases, subject to fulfilment of other eligibility, admission and academic requirements prescribed by the Board.

The notification has been issued by the JKBOSE Academic Division and is applicable to such cases from the Academic Session 2025–26 onwards.

JKBOSE Class 12 Subject Change Rules 2026: What Has Changed?

The amended provision specifically deals with candidates seeking admission to Class 12 after changing subjects or coming from another recognized educational board.

The Board has clarified that passing corresponding subjects at Class 11 will no longer be mandatory in the cases covered under the revised provision.

1. Students Migrating From Other Recognized Boards

Candidates who have already passed Class 11 from another recognized Board and subsequently seek admission to Class 12 in a JKBOSE-affiliated school can take admission without being required to pass the corresponding subject or subjects at Class 11.

This will apply even where the subjects studied by the candidate do not coincide with the subjects offered by JKBOSE, within the same stream.

This is an important clarification for students who move from another recognized board to the Jammu and Kashmir Board for Class 12.

2. Students Changing Subjects Within the Same Stream

The amended rules also cover candidates who are already studying in Class 12 in JKBOSE-affiliated schools or institutions and change one or more subjects within the same stream.

Such candidates will not be required to pass the corresponding changed subject or subjects in Class 11.

However, the subject change must otherwise be permissible under the rules and scheme of studies prescribed by JKBOSE.

Other JKBOSE Eligibility Conditions Still Apply

The relaxation does not mean that all eligibility requirements have been removed.

JKBOSE has clarified that the amended provision remains subject to fulfilment of:

  • Other eligibility conditions
  • Admission rules
  • Permitted subject combinations
  • Academic requirements
  • Other rules and requirements prescribed by the Board from time to time

Therefore, students should ensure that their proposed subject combination is permitted under the applicable JKBOSE rules.

From Which Academic Session Will the Rule Apply?

According to the notification, the amended provision is applicable for such cases from Academic Session 2025–26 onwards.

This means the relaxation applies to the specified subject-change and eligibility cases covered under the notification from the 2025–26 academic session onward.
