73 Paramedical, 7 Doctor Posts Vacant in Budgam Health Institutions: J&K Government
SRINAGAR: As many as 73 paramedical posts and seven doctor posts are lying vacant in health institutions across the Budgam Assembly constituency, the Jammu and Kashmir Government informed the Legislative Assembly on Monday.
The figures were disclosed in response to a starred question raised by Budgam MLA Aga Syed Muntazir Mehdi regarding infrastructure and human resource requirements in healthcare institutions across the constituency.
33 Health Institutions Functional in Budgam
According to the government, 33 health institutions are currently functional in the Budgam Assembly constituency.
The administration said the infrastructure and manpower requirements of these institutions are assessed periodically to identify shortages and take necessary measures.
The government informed the House that 101 doctors are currently working against a sanctioned strength of 108, leaving seven vacant doctor posts.
The shortage is more pronounced in the paramedical category, where 88 personnel are deployed against 161 sanctioned posts, resulting in 73 vacancies.
58 Budgam Posts Referred to JKSSB
The government further stated that 466 vacancies in non-gazetted and paramedical categories under the Directorate of Health Services, Kashmir, have been processed.
Of these, 58 district-cadre posts for Budgam have been referred to the Jammu and Kashmir Services Selection Board (JKSSB) for recruitment.
The move is aimed at filling vacant positions and strengthening manpower availability in health institutions across the district.
335 Medical Officers Receive Appointment Orders
Responding to the shortage of doctors, the government said the department had received the selection list of 416 candidates for Medical Officer posts.
Subsequently, the Administrative Department issued appointment orders for 335 Medical Officers whose verification reports had been received.
The appointments were issued under Government Order No. 663-JK(HME) of 2026 dated September 2, 2026.
According to the government, the newly selected Medical Officers are currently submitting their joining reports as they take up their assigned postings.
After completion of the prescribed joining period, the doctors will be posted in peripheral, far-flung and underserved areas where shortages are acute.
Government Says Medicines, Diagnostics Adequately Available
On the availability of medicines and diagnostic services, the government said adequate stocks of essential medicines and diagnostics are being maintained and that no shortage is currently being faced.
It said availability is monitored regularly, while issues related to medicines, ambulances and healthcare infrastructure are reviewed and addressed as required.
Several Health Infrastructure Projects Underway
Several healthcare infrastructure projects are also under execution in the Budgam constituency under the UT CAPEX budget.
The government provided the following status of major projects:
- The 125-bedded hospital at Reshi Pora, Budgam, is around 70 per cent complete.
- The NTPHC at Puhroo has been completed.
- The NTPHC at Nasrullah Pora is around 85 per cent complete.
- The PHC at Kralpora has been completed and taken over.
- Work on the PHC at Soibugh is partly completed and partly tendered.
- At NTPHC Hardupanzoo, the structure and roof have been completed.
- The balance work at NTPHC Jawalpora has reached the ground-floor slab stage.
- The NTPHC at Wahabpora is around 30 per cent complete.
100-Bedded Critical Care Facility Targeted
The government also informed the Assembly that a 100-bedded Critical Care facility under PM-ABHIM has been targeted for the current financial year.
Meanwhile, a new 128-slice CT scan machine has been installed and is expected to become operational shortly.
Budgam Has 15 Ambulances
The constituency currently has eight routine ambulances, six BLS 108 ambulances and one ALS 108 ambulance, according to the government.
The government said the infrastructure and manpower requirements of health institutions in the constituency are reviewed periodically, with measures being undertaken to strengthen healthcare services, particularly in underserved areas.
The vacancy figures, ongoing recruitment process and infrastructure projects indicate that manpower strengthening and expansion of healthcare facilities remain key areas being addressed in the Budgam Assembly constituency.
