8 Policemen Suspended in Kathua After Video of Attack on Religious Preachers Goes Viral.
SRINAGAR, Oct 24: Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have suspended eight police personnel, including a sub-inspector and seven Special Police Officers (SPOs), after a video showing an attack on a vehicle carrying religious preachers in Kathua district went viral on social media.
The incident reportedly occurred in the Juthana area under the jurisdiction of Rajbagh Police Station, where a group of youths allegedly attacked the preachers’ vehicle with sticks. The viral footage purportedly shows police personnel present at the scene but failing to take immediate action.
Accounding Officials KNC identified the main accused as Ravindra Singh Thela, who has a known criminal background with multiple cases already registered against him.
Following the uproar, SSP Kathua Mohita Sharma ordered the suspension of the concerned officers for dereliction of duty. Police have registered an FIR and arrested one accused, while efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining culprits.
This incident has sparked widespread condemnation, with citizens demanding strict action against those involved and accountability from law enforcement officials.
