16 Injured After Minibus Overturns on Jammu-Rajouri-Poonch Highway
SRINAGAR, Nov 4 (KNC): At least 16 people, including several school students, sustained injuries when a passenger minibus overturned at Thandikassi along the Jammu–Rajouri–Poonch National Highway on Tuesday morning.

According to officials quoted by Kashmir News Channel (KNC), the minibus was heading towards Rajouri when it reportedly lost control and skidded off the road under unclear circumstances. The accident caused panic among locals and travelers passing through the area.
Local residents, police teams, and volunteers quickly reached the spot to launch rescue operations. The injured passengers were immediately shifted to a nearby health facility for first aid before being referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri for specialized treatment.

A police official confirmed that an investigation has been initiated to ascertain the cause of the mishap. Preliminary reports suggest that overspeeding or slippery road conditions due to recent rainfall could be possible factors, but the exact cause will be determined after further inquiry.
Eyewitnesses said that the vehicle veered sharply before toppling over. “People nearby rushed to help, breaking open the windows to rescue those trapped inside,” one of the witnesses shared. Several students traveling in the vehicle suffered minor injuries but were visibly shaken by the incident.
According to doctors at GMC Rajouri, the condition of most injured individuals is reported to be stable, though two patients have been kept under observation for head and leg injuries. The hospital administration has ensured all necessary medical support is being provided to the victims.
The accident caused temporary disruption of traffic along the busy Jammu–Rajouri–Poonch highway, with long queues of vehicles seen on both sides until authorities managed to clear the wreckage. Police later removed the damaged vehicle from the road to restore smooth movement.
Road safety officials have once again urged drivers to adhere to traffic rules and maintain safe speeds, especially on hilly routes known for sharp turns and steep slopes.
Residents have appealed to the authorities to install additional signboards and road barriers at accident-prone spots along the Thandikassi stretch to prevent future tragedies.
This incident adds to a growing number of road mishaps reported across Jammu and Kashmir in recent weeks. Officials have called for stricter enforcement of traffic norms and periodic vehicle safety checks to minimize such accidents.
