MeT Issues Weather Alert for J&K, Predicts Intense Showers and Hailstorm in Next 5 Hours

Srinagar, June 18: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued a weather advisory, forecasting rain, thunderstorms, hailstorm, and gusty winds across several parts of Jammu and Kashmir during the next 3–5 hours.

According to the advisory issued at 4:45 PM on Thursday, a spell of rain and thundershowers is expected over many areas of both Kashmir and Jammu divisions, including Ramban, Doda, Kishtwar, Rajouri, Poonch, and the Sonamarg–Baltal–Holy Cave axis. Brief periods of intense rainfall, thunderstorms, hailstorms, and strong winds may occur at some locations.

The weather department has advised residents to remain indoors during thunderstorms and lightning activity and stay away from loose structures, electric wires, poles, and old trees.

There is also a possibility of hailstorms accompanied by heavy showers in Tangdhar, Kupwara, Handwara, Budgam, Uri, Kukernag, Ganderbal, and Shopian.

Additionally, isolated areas of Tangdhar, Kupwara, Kukernag, Banihal, Kishtwar, and Budgam may witness intense rainfall that could trigger flash floods and mudslides over the next few hours.

Authorities have urged people to take necessary precautions and avoid unnecessary travel in vulnerable areas.
