Fresh Snowfall Blankets Kashmir: Season’s First Snow Hits Gulmarg, Gurez

SRINAGAR, October 6:Fresh Snowfall Blankets Kashmir. The higher altitudes of Kashmir, including Gulmarg, Gurez, and several other mountain regions, experienced the season’s first snowfall this week, signaling an early onset of winter across the Valley.

The fresh spell of snow transformed the landscape, painting the mountains in stunning white. Key high-altitude areas like Affarwat in Gulmarg, Sinthan Top in Anantnag, the crucial Zojila Pass, and the Razdan Top—the gateway to the Gurez Valley in Bandipora district—woke up to a beautiful white blanket.

Detailed Report on Snowfall and Road Status

According to on-ground reports, the light snowfall at Razdan Top began in the early hours of Monday morning, leading to a noticeable dip in temperatures across the upper regions. Despite the fresh snow, officials from the Traffic Police Department have confirmed that traffic movement on the Bandipora-Gurez road remains open and operational, a relief for residents and travellers in the area.

Other areas that reported this season’s first snowfall include Gumri and Minimarg, adding to the winter spectacle.

Jammu & Kashmir Weather Forecast: More Snow Expected

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has attributed this early winter spell to a western disturbance affecting the region. Weather officials have forecast that more widespread rain and snow are likely across parts of Jammu and Kashmir from October 5 to 7.

While the heights saw snow, the plains, including the summer capital Srinagar and its adjoining areas, experienced light rainfall. Intermittent showers were also recorded across various plains in North and South Kashmir.

Tourist Delight and Official Advisories

The dramatic change in weather has been met with excitement by both locals and tourists, many of whom view the first snowfall as a beautiful and welcome sign of the approaching winter season.

However, authorities have issued a cautionary advisory. Commuters and travellers, especially those venturing into higher altitude regions, are advised to remain cautious due to dropping temperatures and potentially slippery road conditions. Motorists are encouraged to check the latest weather and road status updates before embarking on journeys to these areas.
