Major Weather Alert: Monsoon–Western Disturbance Interaction to Trigger Widespread Heavy Rainfall Across J&K from 19 to 24 July

A significant change in weather is on the way across Jammu and Kashmir. Moist monsoon winds are set to interact with a Western Disturbance, leading to a widespread and intense spell of rain from 19 to 24 July.

The most active phase is expected between 20 and 22 July. During this period, Jammu Division and South Kashmir are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall, while North and Central Kashmir are expected to receive light to moderate rain with a few heavy spells.

There is a high risk of flash floods, cloudbursts, landslides, and shooting stones, particularly over the Jammu region, hilly areas of Pir Panjal range between 20 and 23 July.

The Jammu–Srinagar National Highway may witness temporary disruptions due to heavy rain, landslides, shooting stones, and mudslides at vulnerable stretches.

Water levels in rivers, streams, and nallahs are expected to rise considerably across both Jammu and Kashmir.

A noticeable drop in temperatures is also expected, bringing much cooler weather during this spell.
