Jammu & Kashmir Weather Update: Light Rain, Snowfall Likely Till January 10; Moderate Snow Expected in Higher Reaches

Srinagar, Dec 28: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued an extended weather forecast for Jammu & Kashmir, predicting a spell of cloudy weather accompanied by light rain and snowfall across several parts of the Union Territory over the coming days. According to officials quoted by Kashmir News Observer (KNO), travellers and transporters have been advised to strictly follow traffic and administrative guidelines, especially during snowfall spells in hilly areas.

Day temperatures are expected to remain near normal to slightly below normal. Recent readings indicate Srinagar hovering around 6°C, Jammu around 15°C, while Gulmarg continues to remain colder near -2°C, reflecting typical late-December conditions.

Weather Forecast Highlights (December 28, 2025 – January 10, 2026)
December 28–29: Partly to generally cloudy weather is expected across most parts of Jammu & Kashmir with largely dry conditions.
December 30: Generally cloudy weather with light rain and snowfall is likely at scattered places, particularly over middle and higher reaches, while plains may experience overcast skies and a dip in temperature.
December 31–January 1: Light rain and snowfall is expected at many places. Moderate snowfall is likely over some middle and higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir, including Gulmarg, Sonamarg, Kupwara belt, Gurez Valley, and higher mountain ranges of Central Kashmir, which may temporarily disrupt road connectivity.
January 2: Partly to generally cloudy weather with light rain or snowfall at isolated to scattered places.
January 3–8: Mostly partly cloudy weather is expected with colder nights due to reduced cloud cover.
January 9–10: Partly to generally cloudy conditions are likely with no major weather disturbance forecast at present.
