J&K Govt Seeks Action Against PWD Officers Over Snow Clearance Failure
PWD Initiates Departmental Proceedings Over Delay in Snow Clearance, Officers Found Absent From Duty
The Government of Jammu and Kashmir’s Public Works (R&B) Department has initiated departmental proceedings against several officers following delays in snow clearance and instances of unauthorized absence from duty in South Kashmir.
According to officials, the action follows a visit by the Hon’ble Deputy Chief Minister, Jammu and Kashmir, to the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC), Srinagar, on January 25, 2026. During the visit, it was reported that an Assistant Engineer from the Machinery Division Srinagar was found absent from duty.
Officials further informed that elected representatives and public delegations from areas including Shopian, Anantnag, Imam Sahib, Tangmarg, Zainapora, and other parts of Kashmir Division complained that certain officers of the Public Works Department failed to perform their duties efficiently, leading to delays in snow clearance and disruption of road connectivity and essential services.
Taking serious note of the matter, the Deputy Chief Minister directed that the concerned officers be placed under suspension and their duties assigned to other officers as per administrative convenience.
The officers named in the communication include Er. Noor Din, AEE, Er. Shabir Ahmad Ganie, AEE, Er. Nasir, AE, Er. Sandeep Vaishnavi, AE, and Er. Ramiz, JE, posted in various sub-divisions of PW(R&B), Mechanical and Hospital Divisions in South Kashmir and Srinagar.
The department has sought inputs from the concerned Chief Engineers within a day to enable further action in the matter.
