SRINAGAR: Senior IPS officer Sujit Kumar has assumed charge as the new Inspector General of Police (IGP), Kashmir Zone, following a major reshuffle of senior police officers in Jammu and Kashmir.

Kumar, a 2007-batch IPS officer, was transferred from his previous position as IGP Security, J&K, and appointed as the new IGP Kashmir Zone by the Home Department.

Sujit Kumar has taken over as IGP Kashmir Zone, succeeding Vidhi Kumar Birdi, who has been posted as an Inspector General in the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) on central deputation.

Birdi had been serving as IGP Kashmir Zone since 2023.

Following the reshuffle, Vivek Gupta has been appointed as IGP Security, J&K, replacing Sujit Kumar.

Sujit Kumar’s Previous Experience in Kashmir

The newly appointed IGP Kashmir Zone has previously served in all three ranges of the Kashmir Zone during his career.

He has also served as the head of the Central Kashmir Range, giving him significant experience of policing and security-related matters in the Valley.
