He was 93. Malhotra’s political journey began with the BJP’s predecessor, the Jan Sangh. Malhotra’s political career was marked by several significant achievements. He served as Delhi’s chief executive councillor, a position equivalent to the chief minister before the statehood model was implemented.
One of the most notable highlights of his career was the 1999 Lok Sabha election, where he contested from the South Delhi constituency. In a historic victory, Malhotra defeated the Congress candidate and former Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, by a significant margin. This victory cemented his reputation as a giant-killer and a formidable force in Delhi’s political landscape.
His political acumen was further demonstrated in the 2004 general elections, a wave year for the Congress. While the Congress swept six of Delhi’s seven parliamentary seats, Malhotra was the sole BJP candidate to emerge victorious, underscoring his personal popularity and deep-rooted connection with his constituents.
