Breaking JKBOSE Leaves Class 10, 11 and 12 Students in Limbo

SRINAGAR: The delay in the results of Classes 10, 11 and 12 has caused stress among students, halting their further plans and preparations. The Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) is currently functioning without a Chairman, resulting in the delay in the declaration of results.

Class 10 examinations began on November 3 and concluded on November 27, 2025, while Class 11 examinations were held from November 19 to December 13, and Class 12 examinations from November 8 to December 13. After the examinations concluded, board officials announced that the Class 10 results would be declared in the first week of January. However, with the board remaining headless and without a Chairman, the results have been delayed.

Rutba, a Class 10 student, while expressing stress, said, “The government is wasting our time. We have to join classes, but that isn’t possible without the results.” Blaming the government for ruining their careers, she questioned how long the delay would continue. Talking about the results, she said, “I humbly request the government to end this uncertainty and appoint a Chairman so that our results can finally be declared.”

Education Minister Sakina Itoo later assured that the Class 10 results would be declared in the second week of January, followed by the results of Classes 11 and 12. The second week has now passed, yet the results remain undeclared, leaving students and parents waiting anxiously and under increasing stress.

Misbha, a Class 12 Humanities student, sharing a similar sentiment, said, “We are all facing problems in submitting CUET forms for admissions because we first need our results to decide which subjects to choose. CUET is mandatory for college admissions, yet there are more rumours than results, which is mentally exhausting.” She questioned the government’s conduct as the promise of declaring results in the second week of January has already failed.

The CM-led government changed the academic session to November, starting this session, giving students hope that results will be declared soon after exams in November. The delay, students say, is taking them back to a feeling of wasting winter time waiting.

Another Class 12 student, Irfan, said, “We are stuck between our Class 12 results and the CUET. We are stressed and unable to decide which subjects or colleges to choose, and we cannot even prepare properly for CUET because of this uncertainty.”

“We are all hopeful that a Chairman is appointed soon so that our results are declared and we can plan our further studies,” Irfan said, expressing hope to prevent further damage.

The post of JKBOSE Chairman has remained vacant for over a year after the tenure of Prof Parikshat Singh Manhas ended. Although the Jammu and Kashmir government reconstituted a Search Committee in December 2024 and gave additional charge to the Principal Secretary, School Education Department, no appointment was made. The officer holding additional charge was later transferred out of Jammu and Kashmir, and the next officer given charge retired on December 31, 2025. Meanwhile, the panel recommended by the Search Committee was not acted upon and lapsed after six months.

An official from JKBOSE, while acknowledging the situation of both students and parents, said, “We have already prepared the Class 10 results, but we are waiting for the appointment of the Chairman to give the final approval. That appointment is the government’s decision, not JKBOSE.”

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Jammu and Kashmir criticised the Omar Abdullah-led government, accusing it of favouritism and administrative apathy for failing to appoint a permanent Chairman to the Jammu and Kashmir Board of School Education (JKBOSE) even after nearly a year, a delay the party said is putting students’ futures at risk.

Kashmir Life tried to contact Education Minister Sakina Itoo over the issue, but the minister was not available. However, while talking to reporters in Jammu, she assured that the results are ready and await the appointment of a Chairman for declaration.
