Fresh Snowfall Blocks Bandipora-Gurez Road, Stranding Vehicles; BSF Rescues Passengers

SRINAGAR: Gurez Valley in north Kashmir’s Bandipora district has been completely cut off from the rest of the Kashmir Valley since early Tuesday morning after fresh heavy snowfall blanketed the high-altitude Razdan Pass, officials confirmed.
Immediate Road Closure
An official from the Bandipora district administration stated that Razdan Top, the critical high-altitude pass along the Bandipora-Gurez road, received between 4 to 5 inches of fresh snow overnight. This led to the immediate closure of this vital road link, which serves as the only surface connectivity for the remote Gurez valley with the Kashmir region.
Travelers Stranded
Due to the sudden and heavy snowfall, multiple vehicles traveling between Bandipora and Gurez were left stranded along the treacherous route. Passengers, including locals and tourists, found themselves trapped in harsh winter conditions as visibility dropped and road surfaces became slippery and unsafe for travel.
Timely BSF Rescue Operation
In a swift response, the Border Security Force (BSF) unit stationed in the area launched a rescue operation. Using specialized vehicles and equipment, BSF personnel successfully evacuated all stranded passengers and ensured their safe relocation to nearby shelters. All vehicles were also secured with assistance provided to drivers.
Extended Impact on Tulail Valley
Meanwhile, the nearby Tulail Valley, another remote and strategically important region near the Line of Control (LoC), also received moderate to heavy snowfall, further isolating communities in the region. Local authorities have advised residents to avoid unnecessary travel until road clearance operations are completed.
