Srinagar, Oct 11, 2025: The Indian Army’s Chinar Corps on Friday paid homage to two soldiers, Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh, who sacrificed their lives during an anti-terror operation in the Kishtwar Range of Kokernag while battling extreme weather conditions.

“Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Bravehearts Lance Havildar Palash Ghosh and Lance Naik Sujay Ghosh, while conducting relentless counter-terror operations in the Kishtwar Range of Kokernag, battling extreme weather conditions,” the Chinar Corps posted on X.

The Army expressed solidarity with the bereaved families, adding, “Their courage and dedication will forever inspire us. Chinar Warriors salute the valour and sacrifice of the Bravehearts. We stand in solidarity with the bereaved families and are committed to their well-being.”

The soldiers went missing during the intervening night of October 6-7 when an operational team in the Kishtwar range faced a severe snowstorm and whiteout conditions in the mountains of South Kashmir. Intense search and rescue operations were immediately launched, but they were hampered due to adverse weather, the Army said.

In response to the challenging security scenario, Union Home Minister Amit Shah on October 9 directed security forces to remain on high alert to prevent terrorists from exploiting snowfall and harsh weather to infiltrate across the Line of Control (LoC) and the International Border in Jammu and Kashmir.

During a high-level security review in New Delhi, officials briefed the Home Minister about recent infiltration patterns, highlighting how Pakistan-based terror groups often use fog, snow cover, and difficult terrain to push infiltrators into Indian territory. With winter approaching, mountain passes in North Kashmir and the Pir Panjal range are expected to receive heavy snowfall, reducing visibility and complicating surveillance operations.

Shah emphasised the need for coordinated vigilance, asking the Army, BSF, and Jammu and Kashmir Police to strengthen their presence along infiltration-prone routes and enhance intelligence-sharing mechanisms to maintain security across the Union Territory.

The nation mourns the loss of these brave soldiers, whose supreme sacrifice underscores their dedication and courage in the face of extreme adversity.
