Srinagar, Oct 12 (KNC): J&K Congress Declines Fourth Rajya Sabha Seat,The Jammu & Kashmir Congress has decided not to contest the fourth Rajya Sabha seat proposed by the National Conference (NC), describing it as a risky choice for the party.
Speaking to reporters, Karra informed that the party held detailed discussions regarding the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections. “After careful deliberation, the unanimous view was that our central leadership preferred a safer option, such as seat number 1 or 2. The NC, however, offered seat number 4, which is relatively less secure. Considering this, the party decided not to field a candidate and leave the matter to alliance partners,” he said.
Karra added that the Congress had formally communicated its decision to NC leaders. “We sent a letter to Chief Minister Omar Abdullah explaining our stance. He asked us to forward it to Farooq Abdullah, which we have done. As of now, there has been no response,” he noted.
He also highlighted that Congress members raised concerns regarding governance issues, developmental delays, and the absence of a coordination mechanism among alliance partners.
The party’s move reflects its cautious approach ahead of the Rajya Sabha elections and underscores ongoing discussions within the J&K political alliance.
