J&K Electricity Bills to Rise by 6.83% from September 1 ⚡
SRINAGAR: Electricity consumers across Jammu and Kashmir will see higher power bills from September 1 after the Joint Electricity Regulatory Commission (JERC) approved an average 6.83 per cent increase in retail supply tariffs for 2026–27.
The revised rates were approved through JERC Order No. 06 of 2026 dated August 20 and will apply to electricity consumed between September 1, 2026 and March 31, 2027.
For metered domestic consumers, the energy charge has been fixed at Rs 2.45 per unit for monthly consumption up to 200 units, Rs 4.20 per unit for 201–400 units and Rs 4.60 per unit for consumption above 400 units. The fixed charge has been set at Rs 10 per kW per month.
Under the previous tariff, domestic consumers paid Rs 2.30, Rs 4 and Rs 4.35 per unit across the three slabs. The revised rates therefore represent an increase of around 5 to 6.5 per cent in the energy component, depending on the consumption slab, while the fixed charge has increased by 25 per cent.
BPL consumers have been kept outside the tariff increase. Those consuming up to 30 units a month will continue to pay Rs 1.40 per unit, along with a fixed charge of Rs 5.
Agricultural consumers will also continue to receive subsidised rates. Metered connections up to 20 HP will be charged Rs 1.05 per unit, while those above 20 HP will attract an energy charge of Rs 6.30 per unit.
Commercial consumers will also face revised rates. Single-phase consumers will pay Rs 3.75 per unit up to 200 units and Rs 5.70 per unit above 200 units, while the rate for three-phase consumers has been fixed at Rs 6.15 per kVAh.
JERC has approved an Aggregate Revenue Requirement (ARR) of Rs 5,095.82 crore for Jammu Power Distribution Corporation Limited (JPDCL) and Rs 5,179.90 crore for Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL).
The Commission has also taken into account Rs 2,420.78 crore in tariff-related subsidy support committed by the Jammu and Kashmir Government.
The revised tariff will take effect from September 1, with the actual increase in individual electricity bills depending on the consumer category, units consumed and sanctioned load.
Miscellaneous charges have been kept unchanged.
