J&K Weather Update: Rain, Thunderstorms, Hailstorm and Gusty Winds Likely Till June 6

Srinagar, June 4: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast widespread rain, thunderstorms, hailstorms and gusty winds across Jammu and Kashmir during the next few days, urging residents to remain cautious and follow weather advisories.

According to the latest weather forecast issued by the MET Centre, most parts of Jammu and Kashmir are expected to witness one or two spells of rain, thundershowers, hailstorms and gusty winds on June 4 and 5. The weather activity may be intense at some places, with brief but heavy showers likely in isolated areas.

The weather department said that generally cloudy conditions with brief showers at scattered places are expected on June 6, while weather conditions are likely to remain hot and dry from June 7 to June 12 across most areas of the Union Territory.

Possibility of Thunderstorms and Strong Winds

The MET Centre has warned of the possibility of thunderstorms, lightning, hailstorms and gusty winds with speeds of 40-50 kmph, gusting up to 60 kmph, at isolated to scattered locations during the period from June 4 to June 6.

Officials have advised people to remain indoors during periods of intense weather activity and avoid unnecessary outdoor movement during thunderstorms and lightning.

Flash Floods and Mudslides Possible

The weather office has also cautioned that brief intense showers in isolated areas of both Kashmir Division and Jammu Division may trigger flash floods, mudslides and localized waterlogging, particularly in vulnerable and hilly regions.

Residents living near streams, landslide-prone areas and low-lying regions have been advised to stay alert and monitor weather updates issued by authorities.

Advisory for Tourists and Boating Activities

As a precautionary measure, the MET Centre has advised people to suspend boating activities, including shikara rides, during thunderstorms, strong winds and lightning incidents.

Tourists planning visits to hill stations and outdoor destinations have also been advised to keep track of weather forecasts before undertaking travel.
