SRINAGAR: Power Shutdowns in Kashmir:The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has announced a comprehensive schedule of planned power outages across multiple districts of Kashmir this month. These scheduled shutdowns are part of ongoing efforts to ensure safe and reliable electricity supply by carrying out tree branch cutting, preventive maintenance of high-voltage transmission lines, and maintenance of grid substations. Residents and businesses are advised to plan their activities accordingly to minimize inconvenience.

According to the Chief Engineer (Distribution), KPDCL, power supply will be affected in several parts of north and central Kashmir on different dates between October 11 and October 28, 2025. These outages are part of system upgradation and preventive maintenance measures, which are essential for maintaining the efficiency of the power infrastructure and avoiding unexpected breakdowns, especially as the region heads into the colder months.

The planned shutdowns will primarily affect areas served by 33 KV and 132 KV power lines, including key districts such as Baramulla, Sopore, Bandipora, Kupwara, Ganderbal, and Srinagar. The timings for these outages will generally be from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm, though some areas may experience interruptions until 4:00 pm depending on the scope of maintenance work.

Detailed Schedule of Power Outages

Baramulla & Sopore: On October 11, residents of Panzipora, Tarzoo, Hygam, Shair Colony, Arampora, Mahrajpora, Bugoo, and adjoining areas will face power suspension due to maintenance work on the 33 KV Arampora line. Simultaneously, Beerwah and nearby villages will experience outages from 9:00 am to 3:30 pm owing to work at the 132/33 KV Grid Substation Magam.

Kupwara & Surrounding Areas: Power outages are scheduled on October 13 and 18, affecting Nowpora, Achabal, Bomai, Seelu, and surrounding localities. Additionally, residents of Wagoora, Sangrama, Watergam, and Kreeri will experience interruptions on October 15, 18, and 22, as maintenance teams work to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply during the winter season.

Bandipora: Outages in Bandipora will occur on October 20 and 25, impacting Watlab, Dooru, and Tujjar Sharief, among other adjoining areas.

Pattan: Power supply will be temporarily suspended in Palhalan and Hamray on October 19, 21, and 25 as part of preventive line maintenance and substation checks.

Ganderbal: Residents of Kangan, Gagangeer, Wussan, and nearby villages will face outages on October 11 and 15 due to shutdown of the 33 KV Kangan-Surfraw and Kangan-Wussan lines. The Lar-Tulmulla line will also remain switched off on October 11 and 16 to allow necessary inspections and maintenance.

Srinagar City & Nearby Areas: In Srinagar, major maintenance work will be carried out on the 132 KV Zainakote–Wanganpora transmission lines (Circuits I & II) from October 13 to 17. Additionally, power supply at the Wanganpora and Khanyar Grid Substations will be temporarily halted on October 23, affecting neighborhoods including Kawdara, Khanyar, Safakadal, Soura, and Takanwari.

The Chief Engineer stressed that these scheduled shutdowns are critical to ensure safe and uninterrupted power supply during the upcoming winter months when electricity demand increases significantly due to heating needs. KPDCL officials have also requested residents, commercial establishments, and public institutions to plan their electricity usage accordingly and cooperate with the maintenance teams during these scheduled outages.

These preventive measures, while temporarily inconvenient, are essential to reduce the risk of emergency breakdowns, maintain grid stability, and enhance the overall efficiency of the power distribution network. KPDCL has assured the public that power supply will be restored promptly after maintenance work is completed, and teams are working diligently to minimize disruption.
