Shopian, Oct 22: In a swift and coordinated operation, Jammu and Kashmir Police rescued an 11-year-old girl kidnapped from the Chitragam area of Zainapora and arrested the accused within hours of the incident.
According to officials, the case surfaced after the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Zainapora received a WhatsApp complaint from a resident of Chitragam Zainapora, stating that his minor sister had gone missing from her home around 2 pm.

Acting promptly, police registered a case under relevant sections and launched a massive search operation. With the help of technical surveillance and coordinated efforts, the kidnapped girl was traced to Kulgam district and safely recovered.
The accused, identified as Showkat Ahmad Sheikh, a resident of Gund Chal Kulgam, was immediately arrested for his alleged involvement in the abduction. Police confirmed that legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shopian, Mushtaq Ahmad Choudhary, commended the prompt action of the police team. He urged parents to stay vigilant about their children’s activities, especially online interactions, and appealed to the public to report any suspicious activity without delay.
