Two On-Duty Men Killed After Being Hit by Speeding Vehicle in Sopore

Sopore, Oct 20 (ToK): In a tragic incident, two on-duty personnel lost their lives on Monday evening after being hit by a speeding vehicle at Chingi, near Chinar Crossing in Sopore, north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

According to official GNS sources, the duo was deployed at the Chingi entry point to check vehicles when a vehicle bearing registration number JK02BW-2197 rammed into them. Both sustained grievous injuries in the accident.

They were immediately shifted to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Sopore, where one of the victims, Bilal Ahmad (29), son of Wazir Ahmad from Saidpora, was declared brought dead. The other injured, Shahid Hilal (25), son of Hilal Ahmad Shah, a resident of Nadihal Rafiabad, was referred to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment but later succumbed to his injuries.

A police official confirmed that a case has been registered under FIR No. 233/2025 at Sopore Police Station, and the driver involved in the incident has been arrested. “Investigation into the matter has been initiated,” the official added.

The tragic incident has sparked grief across the area, with locals urging authorities to ensure stricter traffic monitoring in busy zones to prevent such fatal mishaps.
