According to a report published by Kashmir Life, LG Sinha emphasized the government’s commitment to strengthening the healthcare system through modern infrastructure, skilled professionals, and robust public-private partnerships.

“Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, we have built new medical colleges, thousands of health and wellness centres, and introduced universal health insurance to make quality healthcare accessible to all,” Sinha said.

He noted that nearly 90 percent of Jammu and Kashmir’s population is now covered under the Ayushman Bharat – SEHAT health insurance scheme, offering coverage of up to ₹ 5 lakh per family.

The LG added that the Union Territory’s improving medical infrastructure is drawing increased private investment, further boosting the sector and ensuring that patients receive better services closer to home. He urged for judicious utilisation of existing resources and compassionate care in every hospital and health centre.

The inaugural ceremony was attended by Leader of Opposition Sunil Sharma, Waqf Board Chairperson Darakhshan Andrabi, Secretary Health and Medical Education Dr Syed Abid Rasheed Shah, Dr Amandeep Kaur (Founder Director, Amandeep Group of Hospitals), and Nitin Nag (CEO, Ujala Cygnus Healthcare), along with senior officials, doctors, and medical staff.

Why This Matters

The opening of Amandeep BR Medicity adds to Srinagar’s growing network of multi-specialty facilities, aimed at reducing patient load on government hospitals and enhancing access to critical care services within the Valley. It also reflects the administration’s push for a strong public-private healthcare ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir.
