KPDCL Issues Detailed Power Shutdown Schedule for Srinagar & Anantnag From Nov 16–22

KPDCL Announces Detailed Power Shutdown Schedule Across Several Areas in Srinagar & Anantnag

SRINAGAR: The Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) has officially released a comprehensive schedule for planned power shutdowns across multiple areas of Srinagar and Anantnag districts. According to officials quoted by Kashmir News Channel (KNC), Kashmir News Observer (KNO), Global News Service (GNS), or Kashmir News Trust (KNT), these scheduled outages are part of essential maintenance and system strengthening works the department will carry out throughout the coming week.

The announcement, issued by the Chief Engineer, Distribution, states that a series of shutdowns will be implemented on the 33 KV SH Pora line and the 33 KV Kawadara–Mughal Masjid line. Due to this technical work, several major receiving stations—including SH Pora, Shreen Bagh, MR Gunj, Kawadara and Mughal Masjid—will remain off during the notified time period. As a result, areas receiving supply from these stations are expected to witness planned electricity interruptions for four consecutive days.

According to the schedule, localities such as Jamalatta, Nawabazar, Zaina Kadal, Firdous Colony, Zaldagar, Nowhatta, Nawa Kadal, MR Gunj, Zadibal, Kaksarai and several adjoining neighbourhoods will experience power cuts from November 17 to November 20, between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm. The shutdown is aimed at upgrading the infrastructure to ensure stable and reliable power supply during the winter months, which generally see a higher load demand.

In addition to the Srinagar clusters, the power department has also scheduled outages for the Anantnag district. The 33 KV Khiram Tap line is among the key lines that will undergo maintenance. This particular shutdown is set to affect the areas of Sirhama, Khiram, Mahind and nearby localities. As per KPDCL’s advisory, these areas will face electricity disruptions on November 18, November 20 and November 22, from 9:30 am to 3:30 pm. The works on this line include technical inspections, conductor maintenance, and system upgrades to minimize faults during peak usage periods.

Furthermore, the 33 KV Saller Tap line will also remain shut for maintenance purposes. Areas such as Sallar, Kullar, Kathsoo and several adjoining habitations will experience power interruptions on November 16, between 9:30 am and 3:30 pm. The department has clarified that these shutdowns are unavoidable as they are required to execute critical repair and enhancement tasks.

KPDCL has urged all consumers residing in the affected areas to plan ahead and make necessary arrangements to manage the scheduled outages. With winter approaching, the electricity infrastructure undergoes additional stress due to increased consumption. The department emphasized that short-term shutdowns during daytime hours help prevent major faults and unscheduled blackouts later during peak hours.

Officials added that these maintenance activities are part of routine system checks being conducted ahead of the winter season to reduce equipment failure and ensure uninterrupted power supply wherever possible. The department also requested residents to cooperate with the field teams who will be carrying out the works at various locations.

Consumers are encouraged to stay updated with further announcements, as additional shutdowns may be scheduled depending on weather conditions, technical requirements or emergency repair needs. KPDCL is expected to release more updates in the coming days if any changes are made to the current schedule.
