MeT Predicts Rain and Thunderstorms Across J&K Till May 13

MeT Predicts Rain and Thunderstorms Across J&K Till May 13: SRINAGAR: A fresh weather advisory for Jammu and Kashmir has forecast generally cloudy skies with intermittent rain and thundershowers across several parts of the Union Territory from May 11 to 13.

Officials said the weather system is likely to affect both Kashmir and Jammu divisions, with the possibility of hailstorms, lightning, and gusty winds in some areas, particularly during the afternoon and evening hours.

Authorities have warned that isolated places may experience moderate to heavy showers accompanied by thunder and lightning, while higher reaches could also witness hailstorm activity.

In view of the forecast, precautionary measures have been advised, including the temporary suspension of boating and shikara operations during vulnerable hours in water bodies such as Dal Lake and other tourist locations.

Farmers have been urged to avoid field and orchard activities from May 11 to 13 due to the risk of lightning strikes, hail, and strong winds that could pose safety hazards and damage crops.

Officials further stated that the wet spell is expected to bring a fall in daytime temperatures after recent warm conditions in parts of the region.

The advisory comes in the backdrop of recent weather-related incidents reported from higher reaches, including lightning-related livestock losses in grazing areas.

Authorities have appealed to the public to remain vigilant, avoid unnecessary travel during thunderstorms, and adhere to official advisories issued by district administrations and disaster management authorities.(KASHMIR LIFE)
