Man Killed, Wife Critically Injured After Tree Falls on Couple in Anantnag
Anantnag, June 2, UNT: A man lost his life while his wife sustained critical injuries after a tree fell on them along the Janglat Mandi–Lal Chowk road in Anantnag on Monday.
According to officials, the couple was walking along the roadside when an old tree suddenly uprooted and collapsed on them, leaving both seriously injured. They were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for treatment.
One of the injured, identified as Mohd Rafiq Khan, a resident of Utross, later succumbed to his injuries despite medical efforts. His wife, who was also injured in the incident, remains in critical condition and is undergoing treatment at the hospital.
The incident has sparked concern among local residents, who have urged the authorities to carry out a comprehensive inspection of old and potentially dangerous trees along roadsides to prevent such tragedies in the future.
Meanwhile, officials have initiated an inquiry into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
