SRINAGAR: A four-year-old girl died after allegedly receiving a wrong injection at a private medical shop in the Mendhar area of Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir, with her family demanding strict legal action and an impartial investigation.

The deceased was identified as Aaira Kouser, daughter of Imtiaz Ahmed and Tahira Kouser, residents of Panchayat Upper Uchhad, Block Mankote, Tehsil Mankote in Mendhar.
According to the family, the child developed severe swelling throughout her body after being administered glucose and an injection at Uzain Medical Hall in Uchhad.
As her condition deteriorated, she was shifted from Uchhad to Sub-District Hospital Mendhar. She was subsequently referred to Government Medical College (GMC) Rajouri and later to GMC Jammu, where she died, the family said.
The bereaved family has alleged medical negligence and claimed that the child died after being administered a wrong injection. They have sought an immediate, impartial and expert medical investigation to establish the exact cause of death.
When contacted, Chief Medical Officer Poonch Dr Parvaiz Ahmad Khan said that medical shops fall under the jurisdiction of the Drug Authority.
“Medical shops come under the control of the Drug Authority. The Drug Inspector has been asked to take necessary action,” he said. (GNS)
