Govt Reschedules Urs Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Sahib Holiday to October 20 in Kashmir Province
SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Thursday announced a change in the provincial holiday date for the observance of Urs Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (RA), shifting it from October 18 (Saturday) to October 20 (Monday).
As per an official order issued by the Commissioner Secretary to the Government, General Administration Department (GAD), the adjustment has been made in the holiday calendar for the Kashmir Province.
“It is hereby ordered that the provincial holiday (Kashmir Province only) on account of ‘Urs Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Sahib’ shall now be observed on 20.10.2025 (Monday) instead of 18.10.2025 (Saturday),” the order stated.
The decision affects only government offices and institutions within the Kashmir Province, while other regions will follow their existing schedules. Officials said the revision ensures that the observance aligns more accurately with the traditional date of the Urs.
The Urs of Sheikh Noor-ud-Din Noorani (RA), also known as Nund Rishi, holds immense spiritual significance in Kashmir and draws thousands of devotees each year to Charar-e-Sharief shrine in Budgam district. The day is marked by special prayers, religious gatherings, and community feasts across the Valley.
