Salman Nizami Warns Against Any Tampering with RBA Quota in Jammu Kashmir

SRINAGAR, Oct 19: Senior Democratic Progressive Azad Party (DPAP) leader Salman Nizami on Sunday strongly opposed any move by the Jammu and Kashmir government to alter or reduce the Reserved Backward Area (RBA) quota, terming it a grave injustice to residents of remote and underdeveloped regions of the Union Territory.

Nizami emphasized that the RBA quota was designed to uplift marginalised and underprivileged communities living in far-flung areas who continue to face challenges such as poor infrastructure, lack of educational facilities, and limited employment opportunities.

“Any attempt to slash or dilute this quota will directly impact the most vulnerable sections of our society,” Nizami warned.

He further said, “We have already lost most of our rights after the reorganisation of Jammu and Kashmir. Now, reducing the RBA quota would be the final attempt by the NC-led government to take away what little remains with the poor and backward people.”

Urging the administration to act judiciously, Nizami called upon all political and social organisations to rise above party differences and stand together to defend the rights of the underprivileged. “We will not remain silent. We will fight—politically and legally—against any move that disempowers our people,” he asserted.
