Seven Private Members’ Resolutions Selected for Discussion in J&K Assembly

Srinagar, Oct 27: The Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly Secretariat has shortlisted seven Private Members’ Resolutions for discussion on October 29, addressing crucial issues including flood rehabilitation, regularization of daily wagers, employment generation, and the establishment of a National Law University in Srinagar.

Officials said that 55 resolutions were submitted by Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs), out of which seven were selected through a balloting process. The chosen resolutions include three from BJP, two from the National Conference (NC), and one each from Congress and an Independent member.

BJP MLA Pawan Kumar Gupta from Udhampur West proposed a resolution seeking immediate relief and rehabilitation for families affected by the recent floods and landslides across Jammu and Kashmir. He urged the administration to seek special financial assistance from the Centre under the National Disaster Relief Fund (NDRF) to ensure compensation and livelihood restoration for victims.

Another BJP legislator, Balwant Singh Mankotia from Chenani, moved a resolution demanding 10 marla plots for flood-affected families who lost their land in the August 2025 flash floods.

From the National Conference, Ajaz Jan (MLA, Poonch) proposed the regularization of daily wagers working in various government departments, calling for transparent eligibility criteria and recognition of long-term service.

NC’s Syed Bashir Ahmad Shah (Veeri) urged the Government to create more employment opportunities in both public and private sectors, with a focus on agro-based industries and youth entrepreneurship.

Congress MLA Nizam-ud-Din Bhat put forth a resolution seeking the immediate establishment of the Jammu and Kashmir National Law University (NLU) in Srinagar, noting that funds for the first phase of construction have already been sanctioned.

Meanwhile, BJP MLA Rajeev Kumar Bhagat from Bishnah called for revamping irrigation infrastructure, especially restoring canal networks to ensure water supply to farmlands at tail ends.

An Independent MLA from Thannamandi (Rajouri) sought the full implementation of Rule 49 of the J&K Panchayati Raj Rules, 1996, empowering Halqa Panchayats to execute rural development works worth up to ₹3 lakh.

The ongoing autumn session of the J&K Assembly, which commenced on October 23, will resume on Monday after a three-day recess. The selected resolutions are scheduled for debate on Wednesday, October 29, while Friday will mark the final sitting of the session.

Notably, no resolution submitted by PDP legislators was chosen in the balloting process.
