RAMBAN, Oct 14 — In a deeply tragic incident, a man from Jammu and Kashmir’s Ramban district lost his life to a heart attack after witnessing his teenage son collapse in his lap while on their way to a hospital, officials confirmed on Tuesday.
The heartbreaking event took place in the Tethar area of Banihal, where Shabir Ahmed Gania (45) was taking his ailing son, Sahil Ahmed (14), to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. However, during the journey, Sahil suddenly collapsed in his father’s lap.
Overwhelmed by the shock of seeing his son lose consciousness, Shabir reportedly suffered a massive heart attack, leading to his instant death. Eyewitnesses and officials said that locals and passersby rushed to help but were unable to save either of them.
The father and son were later brought to the Sub-District Hospital (SDH) Banihal, where doctors declared both of them dead on arrival. The devastating double loss has plunged the local community into mourning, with neighbors and relatives expressing deep grief over the tragic turn of events.
Officials described the incident as “heart-wrenching,” noting that it underscores how emotional trauma can have sudden and fatal health effects. The family’s relatives and residents of Tethar village gathered at the hospital, mourning the untimely deaths and offering prayers for the departed souls.
Such incidents, though rare, highlight the need for better awareness about stress-induced cardiac arrest, which can be triggered by intense emotional distress, doctors say.
The bodies of the deceased were handed over to the family after completion of legal formalities.
