JAMMU, Oct 10 — A major railway accident was averted in the Jammu division of Northern Railway early Friday morning, thanks to the alertness and prompt response of Station Master Vijay Kumar at Bhangala station.
According to officials, the incident occurred around 3:25 am when an empty NMG freight train was passing through the station. Station Master Vijay Kumar noticed smoke and sparks emitting from the wheel of the 15th coach of the engine. Realizing the potential danger, he immediately raised a red signal to alert the train manager.
The train was halted after crossing the advance signal near kilometer 81/2 between Bhangala and Mukerian. With assistance from the gateman stationed at LC Gate No. 120, the affected carriage was inspected and the technical fault was promptly fixed. The sparks were extinguished, and the train was safely cleared to continue its journey.
Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) Jammu, Vivek Kumar, praised the Station Master for his vigilance and courage, announcing that Vijay Kumar will be formally honored for his exemplary service.
This timely action highlights the dedication and professionalism of Indian Railways staff, whose alertness continues to ensure passenger and train safety across the country.
