77,099 Government Posts Vacant in J&K, Recruitment to Be Completed in Time-Bound Manner: Govt
SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir Government on Wednesday informed the Legislative Assembly that 77,099 posts are currently vacant across various departments in the Union Territory, covering both direct recruitment and promotion quotas.

Responding to a query from MLA Irfan Hafiz Lone regarding department-wise vacancies and measures to fill them within a stipulated timeframe, the Minister In-Charge stated that the figures include direct quota posts already referred to recruiting agencies as well as those that have been advertised for selection.
The House was informed that all advertised and referred vacancies will be filled in a time-bound manner.
According to the official response, the total vacancies comprise 3,808 Gazetted, 24,507 Non-Gazetted and 12,351 Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) posts under the Direct Quota.
Under the Promotion Quota, there are 6,409 Gazetted, 24,451 Non-Gazetted and 5,573 MTS posts.
The government said several measures have been initiated to ensure timely recruitment, including identification and referral of vacancies to recruiting agencies, adherence to statutory provisions, advance planning of recruitment cycles and continuous monitoring at different stages of the process.
It further stated that efforts are underway to streamline procedures, enhance coordination with recruiting agencies and use technology to speed up recruitment while ensuring transparency and merit. Examination calendars for 2026 have also been issued by the recruiting agencies and are being strictly implemented.
