J&K Police Crack Awantipora Theft Case Within Hours, ₹14 Lakh Gold and Cash Recovered

SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Police on Wednesday said they solved a theft case within three hours of its registration by arresting a woman accused and recovering stolen property worth approximately Rs 14 lakh.

According to police, a complaint was lodged at Police Station Awantipora by Shaiq Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Rajpora Ullar, alleging that unidentified individuals had stolen gold ornaments and cash from his residence. Acting on the complaint, police registered FIR No. 33/2026 under relevant sections of law and launched an investigation.

During the probe, a police team led by the Station House Officer (SHO) of Police Station Awantipora utilised modern investigative techniques, including the collection and analysis of CCTV footage from multiple locations. The investigation established the alleged involvement of a woman identified as Asmat Jan, daughter of Jalal Ud Din Bhat and a resident of Rajpora Ullar.

She was subsequently arrested, and the stolen property, valued at around Rs 14,00,000, was recovered from her possession, police said.

Police stated that further investigation is under way and reiterated their commitment to prompt investigation, timely action and safeguarding public property.
