Speaking to reporters in Handwara, Omar Abdullah emphasized that every government employee deserves a fair and transparent opportunity to defend themselves before any punitive action is taken.
“I have always maintained that termination should be done by the court. Everyone should get a chance to defend themselves,” he said, underscoring the importance of due process in disciplinary cases.

Flawed Judgments and Need for Fair Process
The National Conference (NC) leader pointed out that several employees who were previously terminated had later been reinstated after being cleared by competent authorities. He said such examples highlight how decisions made on suspicion can lead to injustice.
“It would be better to use the court process to punish the real culprits. Action taken on suspicion harms everyone,” Omar said.
His remarks come amid ongoing debates over the use of Article 311(2)(c) of the Indian Constitution, under which the Jammu and Kashmir administration has dismissed several employees without departmental inquiries, citing national security concerns.
Commitment to Justice and Representation
Omar Abdullah also reiterated his party’s long-standing demand for the restoration of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and its constitutional guarantees. He said that the National Conference remains committed to defending the political, economic, and employment rights of the people of the Union Territory.
“Opponents are trying to distract and provoke us, but we stay focused on our mission. Whatever I have promised during elections will be fulfilled,” he said.
The former CM added that the NC’s political agenda revolves around justice, fair governance, and inclusive development. “Our focus is to ensure better infrastructure, employment generation, and fair representation across all regions,” he stated.

Background
Omar Abdullah’s comments follow recent administrative actions by the J&K government involving the termination of several employees on grounds of alleged anti-national activities. His statement underscores a growing political demand for judicial oversight in cases where livelihoods and reputations are at stake.
Political analysts note that Omar’s remarks align with his broader narrative advocating transparency and institutional accountability, especially in matters that directly affect government workers and their families.
Conclusion
The remarks by the former Chief Minister highlight the ongoing debate between administrative authority and judicial fairness in Jammu and Kashmir. As more such cases emerge, calls for legal adjudication rather than executive action are expected to gain traction among political circles and civil society.
