Head Constable Arrested by CBI in Bribery Case

SRINAGAR: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) arrested a Head Constable posted at Gharota Police Station on Friday for allegedly accepting a bribe, officials said.

The accused, identified as Ashok Kumar, was caught in a trap laid by the agency following a complaint that he had demanded money from an individual in connection with a case.

Sources said a counter FIR had been registered concerning a dispute in which Ashok Kumar was the Investigating Officer. He allegedly sought a bribe to remove a person’s name from the case.

Acting on the complaint, the CBI apprehended him while accepting the bribe. A formal case has been registered, and further investigation is underway.

Following the arrest, SSP Jammu ordered the immediate transfer of SHO Gharota, Inspector Sandeep Katoch, and posted Inspector Rajesh Verma as the new Station House Officer.
